Thank You!
We've received your message and will be in touch within one business day.
If you need immediate assistance, call us at (207) 200-1053.
If water is coming in right now, call us. We'll get the roof covered and watertight first, then figure out the rest once the weather clears. If the damage isn't urgent, take photos from the ground, keep any pieces that blew off, and don't climb up to look. We'll do that part.
From there, we'll walk you through it in plain language: what's damaged, what it will take to fix, and what your insurance company will want to see. Here's what to do after storm damage hits your roof.

Built for Midcoast Maine weather
We live and work here, so we know what Maine asks of a roof. Along the coast, salt air and nor'easters test every edge and seam. Inland, it's heavy snow, ice dams and freeze-thaw cycles that do the damage.
Storm damage here usually comes from one of four things: wind lifting or tearing off shingles, ice dams forcing water under the roof, tree limbs coming down under snow or wind, and wind-driven rain finding its way past worn flashing. We know what each one looks like, and we know where to look for the damage you can't see from the ground. From Belfast to Bangor and from Brunswick to Bar Harbor, we've seen what works and what doesn't.
How we help after a storm
Emergency tarping. If the roof is open, we cover it to stop the water while you sort out the next steps.
Full inspection. Larkin looks at the whole roof, not just the obvious spot. Wind that tears off shingles in one place often lifts the seal on others, and a branch that dents the ridge can crack decking you can't see.
Photos and documentation. We give you clear photos and a written description of the damage, so you have what you need for your claim and so there's no question about what was storm-related.
Repair or replacement. If the damage is limited, we'll do a roof repair. If it's widespread, or the roof was near the end of its life anyway, we'll explain why a roof replacement makes more sense and help you weigh it.
Decking and interior follow-up. Water that got in may have soaked insulation or decking. We check for it and replace what's damaged, so the problem doesn't come back as mold or rot.
Working with your insurance company
We're roofers, not insurance agents, but we've been through plenty of claims with homeowners and we know what adjusters look for.
We document everything. Date-stamped photos, a written description of the damage and a line-by-line estimate. Insurers want to see sudden storm damage, not wear and age, and good documentation makes that clear.
We'll meet the adjuster if it helps. If your adjuster wants to see the roof, we can be there to walk through what we found.
We're honest about what's covered. If part of the damage is from wear rather than the storm, we'll tell you, so there are no surprises. Here's what your insurance company wants to know about your roof.
If your insurer or mortgage company requires a formal inspection report, our paid 15-point roof inspection covers the whole roof in writing.
Be careful who shows up after a storm
After a big storm, out-of-area crews sometimes go door to door offering fast repairs and pressuring homeowners to sign on the spot. Some do fine work. Many are gone before the first callback.
You don't have to decide anything the day of the storm. Get the roof covered, take your time, and work with someone who'll still be here next year. Maine law requires a written contract for home repair work over $3,000, and a good roofer will give you one without being asked. Here's how to choose a roofer in Maine.
We're based in Belfast, we've completed over 300 roofs across the Midcoast, and we'll be here for your warranty.
What to expect after you call
We believe the best tool on any project is a clear, organized process. Here's what working with us looks like.
STOP THE WATER
If water is coming in, we make the roof watertight first. Everything else can wait for daylight and dry weather.
FREE INSPECTION & ESTIMATE
Larkin inspects the whole roof, explains what he sees in plain language, and gives you a written, line-by-line estimate you can hand to your insurer.
THE REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT
Most storm repairs are finished in a day. If the roof needs replacing, we'll plan the timeline around your claim and the weather.
CLEAN-UP & FINAL WALKTHROUGH
We clean up, including any debris from the storm on the roof, and walk you through what was done.
Your coverage: Our workmanship warranty covers the work we do, and you'll get it in writing. If your claim leaves you with a deductible or a gap, financing is available. See your options.
What Our Neighbors Say

Common Questions About Storm Damage

-
Stay safe and stay off the roof. If water is coming in, put a bucket under it and call us so we can get the roof covered. Then take photos from the ground, keep any shingles or pieces that blew off, and call your insurance company to open a claim.
-
Yes. If your roof is open to the weather, we'll cover it to stop the water while you sort out the repair and your claim. Call (207) 200-1053 and tell us water is coming in, so we can prioritize it.
-
Usually, yes. Sudden damage from wind, ice, hail or a fallen tree is typically covered, while wear and age are not. Every policy is different, so check yours. We'll document what we find so your insurer can see what the storm did.
-
Yes. We provide date-stamped photos, a written description of the damage and a line-by-line estimate, and we can meet the adjuster at your home to walk through what we found. We're roofers, not insurance agents, but we've been through plenty of claims.
-
It depends on how much of the roof was hit and how old it is. Limited damage on a roof with life left in it is usually repaired. Widespread damage, or storm damage on a roof that was already near the end, often makes replacement the better investment. We'll explain which applies to you.
-
Look from the ground for missing, lifted or creased shingles, shingle pieces in the yard, and exposed black underlayment or bare roof deck. Granules collecting in the gutters after a storm are another sign. If you see any of these, have it looked at before the next storm.
-
Take your time. You don't need to decide anything the day of the storm. Get the roof covered, get a written estimate, and work with a local roofer who'll be here for the warranty. Maine law requires a written contract for home repair work over $3,000.
-
Yes. Our inspection and estimate visit is free, and it includes the photos and written estimate you need for a claim. If your insurer or lender requires a formal written report on the whole roof, our 15-point inspection is a separate paid service.
